Driver Falls Asleep - Smokes Utility Pole In Berger

BERGER, Mo - Earlier Monday afternoon at 1:17 p.m. New Haven/Berger Fire Crews and Hermann EMS responded to the 400 block of Market Street inside the city limits of Berger, Mo. for report of a vehicle into a utility pole.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), 42-year-old Roger Mendenhall of Labadie, Mo was driving a 1993 Ford Crown Victoria and traveling northbound on Market Street when he fell asleep at the wheel resulting in his vehicle to travel off the right side of the roadway and crashing into a utility pole.

Pictured right shows the damage caused to both the vehicle and utility pole.  Ameren UE also responded to assess the damages to the pole. 

In the vehicle with Roger Mendenhall were two occupants who both sustained minor injuries and were transported to Mercy Hospital in Washington, Mo by Hermann EMS.

The two occupants are identified as 3-year-old Gracie Mendenhall and 37-year-old Stephanie Mendenhall.  Roger Mendenhall was uninjured.

According to the MSHP all three individuals were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
