New Haven/Berger Fire responded at approximately 9:26 p.m. off of Lyon School Road, near the intersection of Highway Z, just west of Berger, Mo.
Assistant Fire Chief Brian Strubberg said that when he arrived on the scene they had approximately four to five acres of heavy woods and vegetation on a steep hillside involved. “We had multiple fire companies along with two from Hermann who responded to assist.”
Fire crews spent over thee hours walking the parameter with water backpacks, putting out any hotspots before departing the scene shortly after 12:30 a.m.
Friday’s forecasted conditions are expected to be the same as Thursday’s; this means noone should try to burn a pile of leaves for example. If you have a burning desire to light something on fire, light a candle.
11:00 pm- Fire crews have been able to contain the fire, however they remain on scene as crews go back into the woods to put out any hot spots.
