Gerald Area Library Celebrates Library Card Sign-Up Month with Membership Drive

Gerald, Mo. - September is Library Card Sign-Up Month - a time when the American Library Association and libraries across the country remind parents that the most important school supply of all is at area libraries - it's your library card.

September was first designated as Library Card Sign-Up Month in 1988, as a continuation of a national campaign launched the previous year.

The Gerald Area Library is holding their biggest fundraiser of the year, their Annual Membership Drive.  “We are a unique institution, only one other 100% donation based library exists in Missouri and there is just a handful in the entire U.S.”, Schahara Wise, Library Board Member.

Membership at the Gerald Area Library is a $5 donation for individuals and $10 for families, although higher donations are gladly accepted.  While a membership is not required to check out books from the library, according to Megan Trest, Board Member, “the membership allows you to attend board meetings and have input in our decisions.  This is the money that buys new books, pays for story time, pays our utilities, repairs the building, etc.”   To join via mail, send your name, address, phone number, and email with your donation to PO Box 212, Gerald, MO 63037.

Library volunteers will be selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts on Saturday, Sept. 21 in Gerald at J&L, Citizen’s Bank, and First Bank, as well as in Beaufort and Rosebud.  Pre-orders are being accepted via the event page at or by texting/calling 573-821-0136.

New and renewed memberships will be placed in a drawing for a date-night gift basket.  Additional chances are available for purchase.
