New Haven, Mo. - The 24th anniversary of the New Haven Balloon Race presented by the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of New Haven will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013. The Balloon Race will take place at the New Haven City Park, on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. The New Haven Balloon Race is free and open to the public.
Next week, thanks to our friends at ABC17, Meteorologist Neville Miller will have a Balloon Race forecast and what kind of weather we can expect for both Friday night and then race day on Saturday.
The race begins when the lead “hare” balloon takes off ahead of the pack. Over 20 “hound” balloons then launch in pursuit. The “hound” balloon that drops its bean bag closest to the hare balloon’s landing site will be declared the winner.
The Balloon Race is co-sponsored by Backes & Toelke Agri Products, Bank of Franklin County, Citizen’s Bank, Edward Jones of New Haven – Jim Stiles, Hair, Peoples Savings Bank, Quick News Now, Quick’s Save-A-Lot, RE/MAX Today, Robller Vineyard Winery, Larry Hanks Painting, Shear Connection Salon & Spa.
The New Haven Hot Air Balloon Race will kick-off with a parade at 1:30 p.m., followed by children’s activities in the park. Refreshments and food are available for purchase. The balloons begin inflating for launch between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., weather permitting.
New this year will be a Balloon Glow on Friday, September 27, 2013 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. The Balloon Glow offers spectators a breathtaking view of inflated balloons lighted by their burners. Get up close and walk around the balloons. Limited concessions available.
The Balloon Glow will be held at the New Haven City Park (the site of the race) and will be a walk through event only — not a drive through event.
Park Drive will be closed for both events and spectators are encouraged to park on Lion’s Drive or in the New Haven High School and Municipal Swimming Pool parking lots.
Special thanks to the City of New Haven Parks Deptartment, City of New Haven Police Deptartment, and New Haven Chamber of Commerce
NOTE: The New Haven Balloon Race and Balloon Glow are weather permitting. No rain date is scheduled. Refer to www.quicknewsnow.com for event updates. All events are free and open to the public.
