NEW HAVEN, Mo. - The Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of New Haven will host its 25th annual balloon race on Saturday, Sept. 27 at the New Haven City Park at 1 p.m, featuring over 20 hot air balloons from across the Midwest.
The race is a hare and hound race, which means that the hare balloon takes flight first and marks an "X” where it lands. The hound balloons follow and try to drop a bean bag onto the X. The balloon that drops closest to the mark wins the race.
The balloons will begin inflating for launch between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., weather permitting.

The Balloon Race is co-sponsored by Backes & Toelke Agri Products, Bank of Franklin County, Citizens Bank, Edward Jones of New Haven – Jim Stiles, Hair, Larry Hanks Paint & Drywall, Peoples Savings Bank, Quick News Now, Robller Vineyard Winery, Quick’s Save-A-Lot and Shear Connection Salon & Spa.
The New Haven Chamber of Commerce also will host balloon festival activities on race day, including a parade at 1:30 p.m.
Refreshments and food are available for purchase at the park, as well as a bounce house and a little Mr. and Miss contest.
The 2nd annual Balloon Glow will take place on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
The Balloon Glow offers spectators a breathtaking view of inflated hot air balloons lighted by their burners. Get up close and walk around the balloons and meet the pilots.
Concessions will be available for purchase.
The Balloon Glow will be held at the New Haven City Park (the site of the race) and will be a walk through event only — not a drive through event.
The Balloon Glow is co-sponsored by RE/MAX Today.
Park Drive will be closed for both events and spectators are encouraged to park on Lion’s Drive or in the New Haven High School and Municipal Swimming Pool parking lots.
Both events are free and open to the public.
