Hermann, Mo.
– Here we go again!  For the past two years the Horsin’ Around fun Show has been offered as a “Fun”draiser for St. George School.  The show initially began with one person and has now evolved into a committee of parishioners and supporters of St. George School who want to raise funds while having a great time.  The Horsin’ Around Fun Show will be held on Saturday June 7, 2014 at 10am.  Admissions are $2 per person and children 5 and under are free.

Concessions are available and the entire show is focused on having fun while offering kids and adults the opportunity to show off their horseback riding skills.  Last year there were over 40 participants and a total of $5,600 was raised to improve technology at St. George School.

Each year an honorary faculty member is chosen to ride and represent the school this year, the faculty member is physical education teacher, Mr. Wolff.  Mr. Wolff is well liked by the students of St. George although he does make them exercise and work hard to stay healthy.

This year Mr. Wolff will play HORSE on a HORSE.  He will shoot baskets while riding and since he is not an experienced equestrian, this should be an interesting spectacle.  There is a catch.  The school, parish and entire community must raise $1,000 in order for Mr. Wolff to ride.  So far, the effort has only raised $100 however there are many creative marketing efforts in the works, so stay tuned!

The show is comprised of many classes including classes for those who do not have a horse.  There is the costume class where anyone can dress up and participate, the stick horse class which is judged on decorations of the stick horse, the dummy roping class which is roping from the ground and new this year is an “all species” halter class where anyone can bring any kind of “non-horse” type animal to be judged on appearance and ability.  The show is always entertaining and a great way for the community to come together and support the school other than just having a dinner and dance.

This year there are some new features that have been added.  There will be horse trailers displayed by Schneider Featherlite Trailer Sales, of Hermann.

Horse show photographs with a backdrop will be offered by Captured in Moment Photography owned by Jeanette Steiner; there will be tack and equipment for sale and a raffle with beautiful western bling belts, purses, children’s items, a handmade quilt by Teri Weber and a handmade ribbon wreath by Jessica Gloe.  Raffle tickets are available now and are $1 a piece or 6 for $5.

Tickets can be purchased at Hermann Lumber, Sugar Momma’s Candies and American Family Insurance-Raylene Hollrah, Agent.  A huge thank you to our local businesses who have offered their support to our event.

Our goal this year is to raiser over $6,400 this year and all funds will be used to alleviate the health insurance costs for the school faculty.   So far a total of $2,400 has been raised by class sponsors, ribbon and trophy sponsors and various community members.

If you would like to support the event, please send a check payable to St. George Parish to the horse show treasurer Paula Cole at 1252 Black Forest Drive West, Hermann, MO 65041.
