Columbia, Mo. - Stony Hill could very well be home to the next Steve Prefontaine of women's distance running.
At this summer's Show-Me State Games Franklin County R-II's seventh grader Julia McIntryre was the gold medalist in the girls 11-12 year old division in the 3000m run, finishing with an impressive time of 11:58.9.
While taking gold in her age group, McIntryre finished second overall in the 3000m run, behind 14-year-old Alice Evans, running a time of 11:46.60.
The young and talented McIntryre's time was the third best overall, with Evans 11:46.60 the second best while 18-year-old Sara Fogarty's 10:39.3 recorded this year's fastest time in in the 3000m run.
