New Haven, Mo. - New Haven begins the 2013-2014 season with unfinished business after falling short the past two years in the Class 2 State Championship finals. Monday night they kicked off their season, rolling over Wright City 57-21.
Senior point guard Rachel Steinhoff led all scores with 16 points, playing just 20 minutes. Senior forward Kayla Meyer was perfect from the field (4-4) and 2-3 from the line, hitting double figures with 10 points.
New Haven quickly jumped out to a 21-1 first quarter lead, ending the half with a 28 point lead (35-7). The second half was no different as the Lady Rocks dominated on both ends, forcing 21 turnovers and out rebounding Wright City 24-12.
Senior Emily Kallmeyer (picutred below) scored five of her seven points in the first quarter, dishing out three assists and grabbing six steals. If New Haven can get consistent performances from Kallmeyer and Meyer night in and night out, New Haven is going to be tough to beat.
New Haven begins the Montgomery County Tournament seeded third behind (2) Bowling Green and (1) Hermann.
The Lady Rocks will be tested for the first time as they take on a “very good Fulton team”, Coach Doug Peirick said. “I am pleased with the three seed and really the three through the sixth seed are all pretty evenly matched.”
The Lady Rocks will play the first game Monday night at 4:30 against Fulton.
