Washington, Mo. - After an armed robbery on Sept. 17th at the Fast-Trip Service Station on East 5th Street,  20-year-old white male Cornelius R. Balch was formally charged Tuesday morning with 1st Degree armed robbery by the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Washington Police Chief Ken Hahn called this a “case of excellent police work.”  Hahn also said, “Our detectives worked tirelessly in putting together a solid case against Balch.”

According to Washington Police the incident began when two masked persons entered the service station armed with a knife and demanded cash.  The employee cooperated and afterward, the suspects ran from the store, across 5th Street and through the hospital parking lot.

In a statement Chief Han said, “There was originally not much to work off of with the suspects wearing masks, but these dedicated officers started from scratch and pounded the pavement.  They investigated every lead uncovered.  It was only through their dedication and sacrifice that we were able to solve this case.”

Chief Hahn also said, “There are more persons likely to be charged soon.”

Judge Stanley Williams has set bond at $100,000 cash only.
