NEW HAVEN, Mo. - Sunday afternoon (June 8) Missouri University S&T's Assistant Softball Coach, Chad Schatz instructed the first session of the softball pitching clinic held by the New Haven Youth League Association, at Lions Field.
“We thought the league needed more instruction on pitching,” youth league board member, Tracy Langenberg said. “And later it will benefit the high school team.”
This season, the New Haven Youth League has had some improvements. Langenberg said this year the Association, in addition to having a pitching clinic, has added a website (nhyouthleague.com), Facebook page, new uniforms and participated in Cardinal Night at Busch Stadium.
Kathy Vandegriffe, youth league board member, said they replaced 80 percent of the equipment, including new bats, balls, helmets, equipment bags and catcher’s equipment.
They also so an increase in the number of players compared to last season, which is up from 144 to 198 players this season.
Next year the New Haven Youth League Association hopes to have more clinics for the baseball and softball teams.
The second session of the pitching clinic will be this Saturday, June 14 at 1 p.m. at Lions Field. Schatz will be instructing the session.
