May 30 - Dare to have faith. God has promised that what He started in your life, He will finish. If you’ll let Him do it His way, it’ll turn out better than you ever imagined.
"You are always given the opportunity to make someone feel appreciated. It makes a world of difference to someone who feels empty or ignored. When it comes to kindness, nothing is ever small. That smile they carry, may only be on the outside. There have been times in my life when I was falling apart inside and no one ever knew. Being strong and keeping it all together was my motto. I approached my day as my problems aren’t for others to be burdened with. That was me then, now I know the first person I faithfully go to is my Savior and when I still need someone to talk to, then family and friends hear from me….especially my momma!!
Your inner circle should motivate and inspire you. Your circle should be well rounded and supportive. Keep them close. Quality over quantity, ALWAYS. — Unknown
There is nothing you cannot do when you have the Lord and your circle of friends on your side. "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me." Philippians 4:13
I may not always be, who I ought to be.
I know I’m not all, that I want to be.
But I’ve come a long way, from who I used to be.
And I won’t give up on becoming what I know HE needs me to be!!
May 29 - Wanting to do something is so much more liberating than having to do something.”~ John O’Leary
When someone says to me, “You didn’t have to do that.” I usually find myself saying, “I don’t have to do a lot of things, but it’s because I wanted to."
Choosing love, living from the “I want to” will positively impact all those around you. You'll discover the positivity in yourself to be fueled by love, you'll discover less anxious dealing with challenge, less likely to complain about what’s wrong and more likely to celebrate what’s right.
A friend loves at all times. ~ Proverbs 17:17
You do not have to love. You choose to love. Make that choice today.
May 28 - Go about your day with enthusiasm, passion, and purpose. If you come up against resistance, move through it.
Smile, God has it under control. "Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD." Psalms 31:24
Always go with the choice that scares you the most, because that’s the one that is going to require the most from you and be most gratifying in the long run. The most challenging choice could be God’s test for you. Do not fear He is always with you
May 27 - From my John O’Leary devotional this morning.
“Our scars aren't signs of weakness to be covered up, but symbols of strength to be celebrated." ~ John O’Leary
John learned the lesson above about 20 years after the childhood fire that burned 100% of my body. When he fully embraced this lesson: that is when he was able to start living up to his full potential each day as a husband, son, friend, brother, neighbor, Christian and man.
When we all celebrate our scars daily: that is when we change the world. Starting with ourselves.
We are constantly a work in progress. If we remember that, it is easier to forgive, to grow, to change and to be joyful in every moment. If you know of John’s story the scars he deals with daily are seen in his physical appearance…Some of our scars may be outside our bodies, but we may also have scars inside due to things we may not be so proud of in our past. As the song from “Frozen” states…”Let It Go”. God has let it go and forgiven us a long time ago. From the moment you asked for forgiveness that scar should be history giving us the opportunity to continue improving, falling, challenging, and growing. Make everyday a great day, for the best is yet to come in Heaven and on earth.
“…though our outward man may perish, yet let the inward man be renewed day by day.” ~ 2 Corinthians 4:16
“I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.” ~ Luke 15:7
May 26 - Foremost I’d like to send out a BIG thank you to all who have served to give us the freedom we get to experience on a daily basis. Lord, I ask that you be with those serving and their families, giving them comfort knowing you are always there and have a bigger plan for all. The stress these families go through daily is something I have no understanding of. Give them the comfort of knowing they are not forgotten and you are only a pray away. Amen.
Sometimes life takes us places we never expected to go. And in those places God writes a story we never thought would be ours.” ~ Renee Swope
He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Psalm 139:3
There have been many times in my life that I’ve stopped and questioned; how did I get to this place in my life. It’s interesting how things change over time and our experiences help us see and accept everything differently…..I must be getting OLD!! When I look back at my life a few years ago I now feel silly and embarrassed that I would have worried or been concerned about minor situations that stressed me out. I thank God that now I completely put my faith in Him and know there’s a tomorrow to look forward to, but also keeping in perspective that nothing is guaranteed; so every day I try to do what makes me happy and smiling and positivity is a big part of that. Enjoying life will draw others to you and others will want to experience what you have.
Heavenly Father, we ask that you would touch our lives today. Deliver those from any heaviness they may feel in their hearts. Encourage our hearts and give us strength. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
May 25 - Enjoy your journey…Whatever your present stage in life, whatever you are called to do, wherever you are called to go, enjoy the journey. Don’t waste one day of the precious life God has given you.
I’ve been called to do so many things within the past year. Over that past few months I’ve been working with Operation Christmas Child which is a worldwide children’s project of Samaritan’s Purse that uses simple gift-filled shoeboxes to let hurting boys and girls know that they are loved and not forgotten.
In 2014, the OCC plans to reach close to 10 million children in as many as 100 countries. We work with churches, local community organizations and individuals in all 50 states and across the world to fill shoes boxes with gifts and information about Jesus!! What a rewarding and gratifying way to get involved. If you want to learn, I’d be honored to get you more information.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness. ~ Galatians 5:22
God has blessed us to be fishers of man. “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” ~ 1 John 4:8
May 23 - This is the time of the year when high school graduates can reflect back on their accomplishments. From the outside we have watched and maybe even experienced their accomplishments over the years. We’ve watched many of them from birth grow up to be mature and accomplished young adults; now over time they will continue on their separate ways to become successful adults.
There may have been times when they have been disappointed feeling they weren’t able to achieve their goals. The truth is, God has given each of us our very own unique talents. We cannot all be good at the same things; sports, music, socializing or maybe even academics don’t always come easy to us, but overtime we develop and grow with the talents God gives us for His glory. Life is a work in process; the talents we were given can change over time and develop perfectly according to His plans at the proper time.
As I’ve found out; as I live with and for God, what he has for us is far too much to cram into the first twenty, thirty, forty or even fifty years of our lives. God encourages us to keep an open mind and keep looking for and developing new talents. My next fifty years are still a work in progress.
May He give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed. ~ Psalm 20:4
May 22 - Character…”Keep yourself clean and bright – you are the window through which the world sees God.’ ~ Anonymous
If you want to be respected for your actions, then your behavior must be clean and bright. Respect is earned and cannot be taken for granted; one slip up and it may be hard to earn that respect back. We should always respect ourselves and live right; that’s how you gain the respect of others. If we show that we are peaceful, humble and trusted, others will notice. If we show something different, that to will be noticed.
You may be the closest example many others see of what God has in store for them. Everywhere you go, pray for goodness for all concerned – upon others and upon yourself. If you do that through God’s power and blessings He will cause things to happen through your faith. All of our blessings are from God and we’ve not earned or deserve them. All the Glory goes to our Heavenly Father who’s watching over us ever second of our lives.
Dear Lord, I pray that you continue to help me to be the best example I can be for You. Help me to not make quick judgment of others, for I do not know what troubles and burdens they may be experiencing. Always remind me of the “Golden Rule”. The way to happiness is made much brighter by “Treating others as you would want them to treat you.” Luke 6:31 In your name we pray, Amen.
May 21 - If a person is totally patient, they can be peaceful and joyful in any situation. But total patience comes over a period of time, through a process of development, which takes PATIENCE. It’s like a muscle or your mind – the more you need to use it, the stronger it gets.
Prayer is similar; the more you do it, the better you get at it. When Jesus asks, “What do you want? What do you need?”… It truly is a very simple question, and yet we’re not quite sure how to approach it.
As the old saying goes, “Be careful what you ask for!”… That used to come to my mind, when I thought I could handle everything by myself; Ok, so if I ask Him for something or to do something, will it really be what I WANT??
With God it’s not about what we want, it’s what we need and what He already has planned for us. I’ve learned to ask Him to do what’s best for me; A lot of times that takes PATIENCE, but the more you ask the better you get at it.
Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. ~ Psalm 37:4
May 20 - God sometimes takes us into the troubled waters not to drown us but to cleanse us.
God will always look for someone who has a perfect heart toward Him, not necessarily someone who has a perfect performance before Him.
For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. ~ 2 Chronicles 16:9
This afternoon May 20th, 2014 is when my neurosurgeon, Dr, Tanya Quinn freed me of that nasty brain tumor. From that moment I’ve never looked back; I’ve always been in awe of the skills God has given her….She’s definitely one of my HERO’s and if I need her again I know she’ll be there. With God’s guidance and love for me I know He has given me the blessing of spreading His word. He has something planned for each and every one of us. Ironically, Dr. Quinn saved me with the skill He gave her and I pray that more people are saved by the blessing God has given me. Don’t ever try to be something you’re not, don’t make yourself miserable trying to outdo someone else, because God needs you doing what He made you to be; from being a surgeon with skilled hands and nerves of steel to being a disciple of His. God had to take me into troubled waters before I saw the light.
She is clothed in strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.
May 19 - When we find ourselves in a troublesome situation, let your goal be to simply stay calm. Do not play in the devil’s hands by getting upset. The devil wants you to lose control so that he can gain control. Remember, the devil sets you up to lose control. When we lose control it’s very likely we will say or do something we will regret later.
Be well balanced, be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring, seeking someone to seizure upon and devour. ~ 1 Peter 5:8
Keep in mind our God’s not Dead; He’s roaring like a lion inside our hearts and souls helping us defeat the devil in all his evilness.
May 17 - When we see what God has done for us through His Son Jesus Christ Who was rejected, beaten, and nailed to the cross for our sins - and how little we can ever deserve it – it should humble us. I can’t even begin to count the times I have asked these questions, “Why God have you chosen me to have such a wonderful life?” Why have you blessed me to know you?” As I pray to have those questions answered I see the work He’s been doing through me for Him. What an amazing God we have!!
Today is the one year anniversary of that Friday when my world changed forever; may I add for the Best.
I’ve been blessed to have been given this chance to spread His Word and to do good things for others through volunteering; something I've always wanted. Every step along the way has been His plan. There were many times I couldn’t understand it, but I stuck with it. The things I’ve experienced and truly enjoyed over that past year have all been to His Glory.
Yesterday’s doctor appointments approve to me He has much more for me to do and big plans for me. The MRI looked good and I go back in four months. My chemo oncologist is one of those guys that’s so intelligent that when he tries to be humorous it just doesn’t come out that way, instead he sounds sarcastic. He told me I’ve pretty much determined my own plan of treatment. I’m not quite sure what he was getting at, but I’ve decided to take that as I was bound and determined with God’s help to beat this. One thing I was determined of was to always show a glow of thankfulness, not pity. Looking my best is always important to me. Keep smiling!!
Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and he will exalt you. He will lift you up and make your lives significant. ~ James 4”10
Forgot the most important thing...Thank you to all for your support and LOVE!! We're not done yet...Be kind to everyone. You do not know their troubles.
May 15 - Keep your eyes off yourself and your troubles; instead, fasten them firmly on Jesus and his power. He already knows what is wrong with you. He is ready, willing, and able to bring about the changes that need to be made in you and your life.
I’m off to have a follow-up MRI. I trust that God has in all under control. He is the author of my life and I’m doing His work spreading His Word.
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. ~ Hebrews 12:2
May 14 - The scriptures says: The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. - Psalm 126:3
We can be “filled with joy” because God has done great things...God is doing great things...and God has even greater things in store, even when we’re not feeling or seeing it.
Whatever burdens or tragedies you may be facing put your faith into practice. No matter what you’re going through, stay in faith, be your best each day and trust that God will use it to position you for His plan. Remember that God has a plan and He’s there to carry us.
Lord, help me to not grow weary or get tired of doing what is for your good. Remind me that in Your perfect timing, I will receive a harvest of blessing if I don’t give up. -- Galatians 6:9 NLT
May 13 - If we keep our mouths speaking positive words during difficulties, although it may seem to everyone else that our circumstances should make us miserable and afraid, we can drink joy from the fountain of our own lips. The joy I feel daily definitely outweighs any fear I’ve had….Thank you God for pulling me close to you and giving me your Word and promise.
From the fruit of His Words a man shall be satisfied with good…Proverbs 12:14
I continue to hear daily from friends and family how my message hits them, as if I was talking directly to them. My response as it has been from the beginning is that my thoughts are inspired by God, with just my twist on them, kind of like writing in a journal. They are as comforting to me as they are for many of you. My added words are just my take on things and what I’ve lived. What better way to understand His word than to put our own human testimony out there. God has given me the greatest blessings of all, by surrounding me with all of you. God surrounds us in all our circumstances, good or bad!! Be joyful in all circumstances, because He is with you.
The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him. – Lamentations 3:25.
May 12 - It is vitally important to realize that whatever God calls us to do, He provides enjoyment for. Don’t just work – enjoy work. Don’t just accomplish things – enjoy your accomplishments.
I find this new project of mine a little ironic…it involves a refresh start by redoing my landscaping. My future son-in-law, Adam is in the process of removing all my overgrown bushes from the beds in front of my house. How REFRESHING it is to me to be able to start over…This to me is also ironic; on May 17th, almost a year ago, is when I was told of my cancer and I have felt that every day since God is giving me a chance to start over. When I put my life in perspective I feel it’s all about how He allows me to see it through my eyes. Creating a new flower bed and landscaping will give me a sense of pride, knowing I still have a lot of life to live for Him. One day at a time!!
Thank you God for giving me new life to do Your will and the ability to refresh others with Your Word. I’m enjoying my accomplishments.
That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed. – Romans 15:32
May 11 - A little history….The first Mother’s Day was celebrated in West Virginia in 1912. Mothers were to be recognized as an important part of our culture and lives. The heart of a mother is like a rare jewel. They love their children during the worst and best of times.
Yet all mothers are not the same. Author and speaker Patsy Clairmont says, “Normal is just a setting on your clothes dryer.” We are all different. She shared that as women we may “struggle, fail, start over, and celebrate.” But we are mothers who can love unlike any other person.
God really loves like no other. Think about all the times we have struggled, felt like a failure, were afraid we couldn't be the best mom, yet through God & our Faith and when we need it we get a do-over, yet the best part in forgiveness. As a mother we also forgive and love our children unconditionally. Thank you God for making us mom’s extra special.
"But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love." 1 Corinthians 13:13: Has your mother given you all three? Tell her so, with a thankful heart.
This poem was written in the early 1900’s:
M is for the Many things she gave me,
O means only that she's growing Old.
T is for the Tears she shed to save me,
H is for her Heart of purest gold.
E is for her Eyes with love light shining,
R means Right and Right she'll always be.
Put them all together, they spell MOTHER.
A word that means the world to me.
Happy Mother's Day to all my family and friends; but especially to my mother, Pat Kappelmann. God knew just the mother for me. Love you MOM!!
May 9 - I've always been a very logical thinking person. In my mind I would never stop thinking why, I need an explanation?? After my incident almost a year ago now, I've learned that we don't always need to know why? God took me out of a position that I never would have left, because I’m not a quitter, but I wasn’t listening to Him; when I was forced to see the light, I never asked why?? I could feel and see God had a plan for me and has one for all of us. It could involve illness, loss of life, financial strains due to the loss of a job, or the loss of everything due to destruction; but God is always there working for OUR good, as well as those around us. I’m definitely not saying it will be as easy for everyone, like I feel it was for me; but it’s in those times when we see God’s good, positive people outnumber the bad.
Trust is not inherited; it is learned! We learn to trust God by going through various, sometimes not so pleasant and devastating experiences that require TRUST. By seeing His love and faithfulness over and over, we let go of thinking we can handle it on our own. Then gradually we surrender it all to Him and ask Him to carry us. There's no need for us to know why, but for us to be there for others in there time of need and TRUST Him with our FAITH…. and yes it all matters in the end!!
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.
– Proverbs 3:5-8
May 8 - I didn't know what my message would be today, but I hope it gives comfort to those in need.
This is the day the Lord hath made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. - Psalm 118:24
Today I attend the funeral service of a very young child, the parents are friends of my daughter and her fiancé. I’ve also known the families of the child’s father all my life and indirectly worked with his mother. Some of the very first words the pastor spoke were that he in particular felt out of his element and that most of us probably felt the same. I’m sure there were many that felt as I did…“This is not right. Why God have you taken this precious little Luke at such a young age?”
But then pastor mentioned FAMILY!! What I have always known of these families and admired was their great FAITH and STRENGTH. Shawn and Sara’s family and friends will come together and be their STRENGTH and ROCK. I hope that all us that feel this lost as untimely and too soon can find it to TRUST and have FAITH that God’s plan for Luke is much more important. I know there have been many, many grieving hearts the past few days and without a doubt many, many more to come. We as Christians need to remember that everything we have is all just borrowed on the beautiful earth and we are just passing through, so truly enjoy every day to its fullest.
While all of us, and especially his family and close friends will miss him dearly. Jesus asks for the little children to come to Him. While here on this earth it’s our responsibility to make sure that happens, but now Luke can play with all the children in Heaven and sit on Jesus’ lap….that makes me smile!!
I choose to visualize that beauty.
May 7 - For some reason I’m not finding the words for today’s devotional. Is it ever hard for you to believe that God is with you, even though you can’t see Him? The next time you’re going through a hard time and feeling alone, remember that just like the wind, even though you can’t see God, He is still there. And just like He promised, He always will be.
Today all I’d like to request that you all stop and say a prayer for comfort for His children in their time of need. God will take your prays and comfort all in need.
If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. ~ Matthew 21:22
May 6 - Don’t feel bad if people remember you only when they need you. Feel privileged that you are like a candle that comes to their mind when there is darkness.
I know firsthand how positivity takes you to new places. having Faith and Believing before seeing is all part of His plan. Circumstance usually isn’t the problem; it’s our attitudes. You can be as happy as you want to be. Go out into the world and make it a great day!! You are the head, not the tail. Expect good and positive things…Be that shining candle for someone today!!
Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. ~ Colossians 3:2
May 5 - Make the right choice…If you want to lead a victorious life and enjoy full gifts of life, believe that God’s way is best. Even if you do not understand it, still choose to follow it. It works!! Set your mind and attitude on being the victor, not the victim.
I call Heaven and Earth to witness against you today: I place before you Life and Death, Blessing and Curse. Choose life so that you and your children will live. And love GOD, your God, listening obediently to him, firmly embracing him~ Deuteronomy 30:19
May 4 - Pray daily that God will give you grace to resist the devil when he tries to take your peace. The devil wants to steal your strength and make you weak and powerless. That’s one of the many things that God has given me is STRENGTH. My strength and FAITH fights as much for His glory as it do for me.
Ask the Lord to strengthen you and to help you. Do not try to do it by yourself!! You do not have the ability without Him. You can do all things through Christ, but nothing by yourself.
I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me. (I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency) ~ Philippians 4:13
May 3 - When we ask God to fill us with the Holy Spirit, God doesn’t give us His Spirit by measure. He doesn’t give us just a little bit of this and a little bit of that.
Instead, He says, “Here, take everything you need.”
Every bit of God’s power and love is available to you today. He has all you need, and He wants you to accept and receive it. It doesn’t matter when we need it, day or even in the middle of the night.
Everything that the Father has is Mine. That is what I meant when I said that He will take the things that Mine and will reveal it to you, ~ John 16:15
May 1 - Have you ever thought about the kind of grip God must have? He holds this universe together. "And once a person is with Me, I hold on and don't let go." John 6:37. He also has a firm grip on you! He’s not going to allow us fall.
"Those who look to God are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame." - Psalm 34:5
Dear Lord, daily give me the strength and courage to take the first step toward what you want me to do. In Jesus name Amen.
