School Board Approves Lease Purchase Of $1.1 Million - Announcement of Steinhoff’s Successor Expected At Special May Meeting

Wednesday’s (April 9) meeting began with Meg Parks being sworn in.  Parks replaces Kyle Quick who choose not to run for reelection.  Board officers were also elected;  Brenda Menke remains the School Board President and Diane White as Treasure.  Dana Kallmeyer became the new Vice President replacing Nadine Prussener.

NEW HAVEN, Mo. -  A special meeting has been scheduled for Thursday May 1st by the New Haven School Board following last Wednesday’s regular monthly meeting where the board approved to finance a 15 year lease purchase (“blended payments) of $1.1 million for construction of the new addition.

The repayment plan would require payments of approximately $90,000 for the first seven years then $167,000 for the remainder of the lease purchase. (More about this topic below.)

An announcement of who will be Coach Ray Steinhoff’s successor is expected to be made at the May 1st meeting. It’s important to note that Steinhoff was also the high school P.E. Teacher and Athletic Director (AD).

NEW HAVEN, Mo. - The New Haven School Board approved the calendar for 2014-2015 as proposed by the teacher groups during last week’s monthly meeting, which included a proposal for having either a late start or early release (once a week) for Professional Development days (PD), but left the decision up to the principals and teachers.  Click here to download calendar.

Discussion of having early/late release days was prompted after High School Math Teacher Jared Pruessner, member of the Technology for Instruction Committee, presented a development plan for implementing Chrome Books on a 1:1 ratio in the high school.

Shamrocks Win Second Straight Scholar Bowl District Title - Will Host Sectionals At New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Mo. - The New Haven Scholar Bowl team won their second straight District Title on Saturday, defeating South Callaway 480-180 to advance on to Sectionals, which will be held at New Haven on Wednesday April 30th.

Graden Lovelace led New Haven and was the top scorer in the five team district tournament, averaging 185 points per game.“

Sarah McKernan New Haven Middle School March Student Of The Month

NEW HAVEN, Mo. - Sarah McKernan has been selected as the New Haven Middle School Student of the Month. Sarah is a hard worker who strives to do her best. She participates well in class and is always prepared.

Sarah is involved with volleyball, basketball and the Nation Junior Honor Society. Outside of school her hobbies include: softball, fishing, camping, horses and being outdoors around animals.

Kallmeyer Named NHHS March Student Of The Month

NEW HAVEN, Mo.  - The March Student of the Month is Senior Emily Kallmeyer.  Emily is the daughter of Brad and Dana Kallmeyer.  She is active in volleyball, basketball, track, FBLA, and FCA.

One teacher commented, “Emily recently decided to become a member of the track team.  She has never participated in this sport before and thought it would be an exciting challenge to try something new.  At a time when she could have just relaxed during her last quarter of high school, she chose to push herself and possibly help her peers achieve some track goals that they have set for their team.

New Haven Fifth Graders Complete D.A.R.E. Program - Faris & Wideman Win Essay Contest

NEW HAVEN, Mo. - Fifth graders at New Haven Elementary School celebrated their completion of the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program with a graduation ceremony held on Tuesday.

Part of completing the D.A.R.E program requires each student to write an essay on a topic related to staying drug free.  Two winners are then selected and read their essays during the graduation ceremony.

Over 70 New Haven Elementary Students Get Free Bicycle Helmets

NEW HAVEN, Mo. - Monday morning Mercy Hospital Emergency Room Coordinator Tim Norton R.N. spoke to elementary students at New Haven as part of Mercy’s “Head Safe” program about bicycle safety and the importance of wearing a helmet.

The “Head Safe” program’s main objective is making sure kids have helmets to wear and thanks to the Town and Country Women's Club $300 donation and Mercy’s matching funds; over 70 elementary students who did not have a bicycle helmet, now do.

New Haven School District Kindergarten Screening & Registration

NEW HAVEN, Mo. - Screenings will be held on Tuesday, March 11. Please call the elementary school office at 237-2141 to schedule an enrollment appointment.

To be eligible for Kindergarten, children must be five years of age before August 1, 2014. Parents will need to provide proof of district residency, the child's birth certificate, the child's social security card, and immunization records in order to register for the 2014-2015 school year.
