Dissen Road Home Destroyed In 2nd Alarm Blaze

Note:  I am writing this short article because I’ve had numerous people asking about Thursday night’s fire.  It was purely by chance I was even there, I happen to be driving home from work before fire crews had arrived.

NEW HAVEN, Mo. - Thursday evening at 4:59 p.m. New Haven/Berger Fire Crews responded for a first alarm house fire located on Dissen Road, approximately 4/10 of a mile from Highway E.  The fire was quickly upgraded to a second alarm, having several fire crews from Washington, Hermann, Union, and Gerald respond to assist due to the location and size of the fire.

A year ago, my little sister, Nicole Laune, visited me in Texas for a weekend getaway.  I had big plans for us - shopping and laying out by the pool.  As I tell her the game plan she smiles and says "we might need to get a plan B, I'm pregnant!" So we spent the weekend eating and talking about how exciting the next nine months would be!

Little did Nicole and Jason know that within the next months they would find out they were having not only one, not two, BUT 3 beautiful BOYS!

Published June 4, 2015 - NEW HAVEN, Mo. - Throughout the past school year, QuickNewsNow owner, Kyle Quick, has been working with New Haven High School’s principal, Josh Hoener, about their new journalism class taking over the QNN website after Quick approached him about donating the site to the school district.

Quick stated, “After deciding to cut back on the amount of news we covered, I began talking with Josh about my decision and the idea I had of giving it to the school.  I wanted to make sure all the articles we had published would still be easily accessible, but at the same time for New Haven to still have a local news source.”

Black Gold Men’s Fastpitch Finishes 5th In The Nation

MOLINE, IL - Black Gold played in the North American Fastpitch Association (NAFA) A-Major National Tournament August 6-9 in Moline, IL and finished 5th out of 30 teams, winning 4 and losing 2.    Black Gold also finished 2nd in 2001 and 4th in 2011 in the largest fastpitch softball tournament in the U.S.  

For the first time in NAFA history, a father son combination were selected to the All-World team.   Centerfielder Tyler Johnson hit .600 for the weekend with a double, triple, home run, and 5 RBI’s.   His father, 1st baseman/outfielder Brad Johnson, also made the all-world team hitting .579 and leading the team in doubles.  

Thomas Kuhlmann Memorial Service Set For August 15

NEW HAVEN, MO. - Thomas  A.  Kuhlmann, 78, of New Haven, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Mercy Hospital,  Washington, Missouri.

At the time of his passing plans for a service had not been finalized, but Thursday morning the family of Mr. Kuhlmann released details about a celebration of life service that will be held on August 15.

Lawrence Emil Pelster August 25, 1936 - August 2, 2015

Lawrence Emil Pelster , 78, of New Haven, passed away on Sunday August 2, 2015 at St. John's Mercy in Creve Couer

Mr. Pelster was born in New Haven on the family farm on August 25, 1936, the son of the late Milton and  Adella (Deppermann) Pelster.

Lawrence was born, grew up , and lived on the family farm all his life. The farm meant the world to Lawrence as did his church. He was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church Port Husdson and could be seen there every sunday as an usher. Most of all Lawrence was just a very likeable guy .

William D. Kreftmeyer September 8, 1947 - July 23, 2015

William  D.  Kreftmeyer, 67, of New Haven, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at New Haven Care Center.

Mr. Kreftmeyer was born in New Haven, Missouri on September 8, 1947, the son of the late Eugene and Louise (Scheible) Kreftmeyer.

He was the widower of Betty (Voss) Kreftmeyer.  They were married August 25, 1979 at St. Peter's U.C.C. at New Haven.

William proudly served in the U.S. Army.  He was a member of the New Haven American Legion, and a former member of the New Haven V.F.W. 

William worked for Kellwood most of his working career as a computer programmer.  He enjoyed gardening, listening to music, playing horseshoes and pinochle, bowling and going to the legion hall.

Charlie Vedder February 9, 1939 - July 21, 2015

Charlie Vedder, 76, of New Haven, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Vedder was born in New Haven, Missouri on February 9, 1939, the son of the late Adolph and Marie (Borcherding) Vedder.

He was the widower of Janice E. (Scheer) Vedder.  They were married June 27, 1959 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, New Haven.  Janice passed away on December 19, 1995.

He is survived by two daughters, Debi Scott & husband Philip of Austin, Texas and Kim Boland & husband Todd of Villa Ridge, Missouri, a son Kent Vedder of  New Haven, a special friend Ann Borcherding of New Haven, three brothers Eugene Vedder & wife Doris, Donald Vedder & wife Vera and Rodger Vedder & wife Carol all of New Haven, a brother-in-law Ralph Scheer & wife Barb of New Haven, two sisters-in-law LaVerne Kirkpatrick of Florida and Anne Scheer of Covington, Louisiana, by his grandchildren Ryan Vedder, Sam & Ted Boland, Mackenzy & Zachary Vedder and Michael & Robert Scott, by his great grandchildren Mila & Ewan Vedder and Jazmine, Xavier & Teceyah Scott.  He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother-in-law Rev. Raymond Scheer.

Thomas A. Kuhlmann November 18, 1936 - July 16, 2015

Thomas  A.  Kuhlmann, 78, of New Haven, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Mercy Hospital,  Washington, Missouri.

Mr. Kuhlmann was born in Washington, Missouri on November 18, 1936, the son of the late Conway and Winnie (Talant) Kuhlmann.

He graduated high school in 1954 and later enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served from 1957 to 1958.

He was the husband of Carol  (Mann) Kuhlmann.  They were married October 24, 1970 at New Haven, Missouri.  Carol survives at the home.
