Gordon Gerber February 14, 1921 - April 2, 2015

Gordon  Gerber, 94, of Hermann, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Mercy Hospital, Washington, Missouri.

Mr. Gerber was born in Cherryvale, Kansas on February 14, 1921, the son of the late Gustave and Mercy (Blake) Gerber.

Gordon was married to Virginia (Jackisch) Gerber on November 1, 1945 at Brentwood, Missouri.  Virginia passed away on April 30, 2001.  Gordon then later married Betty (Hagedorn) Gosen-Gerber.  He and Betty were married on July 27, 2002.  Betty survives at the home.

Gordon proudly served in the U.S. Marines from 1941 to 1945 during WWII.  He was awarded a Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in Saipan, Marianas Islands and held rank as a Sergeant when discharged.

Gasconade County R-I School Board Announces Hiring Of New Superintendent

HERMANN, Mo. – Wednesday night the Gasconade County R-I Board of Education announced the hiring of Dr. Tracey Hankins, who will replace outgoing superintendent Dr. Chris Neale. Hankins will officially join the district on July 1, 2015.

Brenda Bader, Board President said, “The Board is very pleased to welcome Dr. Hankins to the top leadership post in our school district. Dr. Hankins has a strong skill set and a record of significant success in her previous positions. We welcome Dr. Hankins to our school and community and look forward to our continued success and progress under her leadership.”

Rosa Saunders (Schannuth) January 1, 1919 - March 4, 2015

Rosa  Saunders, 96, of Hermann, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Hermann Area District Hospital.

Mrs. Saunders was born in Case, Missouri on January 1, 1919, the daughter of the late Frank and Dena (Leffolz) Schannuth.

She was the widow of William Joseph Saunders.  They were married June 6, 1942 at Case, Missouri.

Rosa was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Hermann. She was a homemaker and worked at Rock House Cafe.  She also was a caregiver for many people in this area, which she enjoyed doing. She also enjoyed farming, being around animals, riding horses, going on the river and trout line fishing.

Gasconade County R-1 Schools Receive A Coover Regional Grant

--The Community Foundation of the Ozarks, in partnership with Commerce Trust Company, awarded $10,000 to Gasconade County R-1 Schools at the 2015 Coover Regional Grants ceremony in Springfield.

The funding will be used to partner with the Hermann Regional Economic Development Corporation to develop the "Live Hermann" campaign to market area job opportunities to young residents so they don't feel they have to leave Hermann to find post-graduate employment.

NEW HAVEN, Mo. - An updated computer model provided by Neville Miller, indicates that the snow forecast is beginning to shift south, which means accumulations for Franklin County may be more in the range of 3’’ to 5’’ with most of it coming today and into tonight.

Hermann Business Owner Appointed New Gasconade County Northern District Commissioner By Gov. Nixon

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Gov. Jay Nixon today appointed James Holland, of Hermann, as the new Gasconade County Northern District Commissioner. The position became vacant when former Northern District Commissioner Larry Miskel was elected as Presiding Commissioner.

Holland, a Democrat, is a longtime small business owner in Hermann and also owns and operates a cattle farm. His businesses include retail, restaurant, real estate establishments, as well as a bed and breakfast. He also is a certified first responder.

Warren "Lee" Sabelhaus November 17, 1953 - February 22, 2015

Warren  "Lee"  Sabelhaus, 61, of Hermann, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at his home.

Mr. Sabelhaus was born in Tell City, Indiana on November 17, 1953, the son of the late Norbert J. and Margaret R. (Howell) Sabelhaus.

He was the husband of Elizabeth Elaine (Craig) Sabelhaus.  They were married May 28, 1977 at Tell City, Indiana.  Elizabeth survives at the home.

Warren is also survived by a daughter Rebecca Stout & husband Michael of St. Louis, Missouri, a son Joshua Sabelhaus & wife Kelly of Hermann, a brother Michael Sabelhaus & wife Vicki of Plano, Texas, by three grandchildren Hailey, Madison & Caitlin Stout all of St. Louis, and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

HERMANN, Mo – Doctors Robert Henson and Michael Mahoney presented checks valued at $5000 to Mr. Ervin Elsenraat, treasurer of the Hermann Area District Hospital Foundation.

The foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, operates independently of the hospital and maintains its own board of directors that serve three-year staggered terms.
