Black Gold Comeback falls short in Black Gold Softball Classic

NEW HAVEN, Mo. - Black Gold got off to a tough start Black Gold Softball classic, (June 27 & 28) losing their first two pool play games and nearly being eliminated from their own tournament on Saturday. 

The local squad then rallied and won three straight elimination games before falling in the fourth do-or-die affair to the Pinckneyville Falcons. The Falcons, 5-0 on the weekend, won the Black Gold Classic for the 2nd consecutive year.

For the tournament, Cullen Speckhals led Black Gold with seven hits on the weekend with Brad Johnson, and Jake Murphy recording 6 hits apiece.

NEW HAVEN, Mo. - Early Thursday afternoon, Fidelity President John Colbert took time to contact QNN in regards to the April rate increase for Internet service as well as the advertised increase in Internet speeds.

Colbert responded in regards to the complaints we had received from customers about their Internet speed remaining the same and not increasing in speed, as it should have back in April. Colbert has promised to investigate this complaint and will provide additional information to QNN on Friday.

NEW HAVEN, Mo. - Complaints over Fidelity Communications’s recent price hike and lack of promised increase in download speeds went viral on Facebook on Tuesday, June 23rd. Customers posted that since the rate increase in April, download speeds have not increased to the promised minimum of 6 megabytes per second.

After Tuesday’s out lash on Facebook, a Fidelity Truck was seen early Wednesday morning at their satellite location on Miller Street.

After seeing the truck, I tested our download speed, and it had suddenly increased to the advertised minimum 6 megabyte download speed that customers should have been receiving since April.

Norman J. Diederich October 26, 1933 - June 22, 2015

NEW HAVEN, Mo - Norman  J.  Diederich, 81, of New Haven, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2015 at Frene Valley Heath Care South, Owensville, Missouri.

Mr. Diederich was born in Berger, Missouri on October 26, 1933, the son of the late Irvin and Evelyn (Willimann) Diederich.  He was baptized at St. John's Evangelical Church, Berger on December 24, 1933, and confirmed at St. Peters Evangelical Church, New Haven on March 30, 1947.

Norman was a graduate of New Haven High School.  He served his country for four years in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged on May 9, 1956. He was retired from the Kellwood Company.

Joyce L. Smith (LaMarque) December 7, 1940 - June 21, 2015

NEW HAVEN, Mo. -Joyce  L.  Smith, 74, of New Haven, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Smith was born in Potosi, Missouri on December 7, 1940, the daughter of the late James and Theresa (Stanley) LaMarque.

She was the wife of David L. Smith.  They were married August 8, 1959 at Pacific, Missouri.  David survives at the home.

NEW HAVEN, MO. - Teams from Kansas, Illinois, and all parts of Missouri will battle it out in a round-robin format with two 4-team pools on Saturday.    The top three teams from each pool advance to a single elimination tournament on Sunday.  

Action starts at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday with two games.  On Lions Field, Kelso, MO Fastpitch, with standout pitcher Tom Jansen, takes on the rapidly improving Tribe from St. Charles; while up-and-coming Artisan Construction of Springfield, MO takes on Boonville, MO and veteran fireballer Terry Luster on Bock Field.

NEW HAVEN, Mo. - The annual Black-Gold Softball Tournament returns to New Haven City Park on Saturday June 27th and Sunday June 28th.

The annual mens fastpitch tournament in New Haven dates back to the 1960s with the New Haven Cubs tournament.  After the Cubs folded in 1999, Black-Gold took over the tournament and keeping a time honored tradition alive, making this the 55th fastpitch tournament.

New Haven Youth League Holds 1st Annual Chad Schatz Softball Camp

NEW HAVEN, Mo. - On Saturday and Sunday (May 30 & May 31) the New Haven Youth League held their 1st Annual Softball Camp hosted on by Chad Schatz.

Schatz, a native of Sullivan, Mo, is the Assistant Softball Coach for Missouri S & T in Rolla, Mo. 

Chinese Lantern Festival At Missouri Botanical Garden

The Chinese Lantern Festival opened at the Missouri Botanical Garden May 23 and will be there through August 23.

This year’s event has all new sets some of which depict cities in China and their botanical gardens. 

The MO Botanical Garden has a long history of collaboration with China.  The most recent is the Flora of China project which began in1988.  This international project resulted in the publication of a catalog of all Chinese wild plants.
