JEFFERSON CITY, Mo - For the entire month of August, Missouri wineries and the Missouri Wine and Grape Board are featuring the Vignoles grape varietal. The Vignoles (veen-yole) grape is a varietal that thrives in the demanding weather conditions of the state, and is the most commonly grown white grape. It is used to make a range of wines, including sweet, semi-sweet, semi-dry, and dessert.

The Vignoles grape is often used to make wines with fragrances of a fresh cut, citrus fruit ranging in sweetness from semi-dry to sweet. This varietal boasts flavors of tropical and citrus fruit. Fresh fruit and spicy dishes pair well with wines made from Vignoles grapes.

Vignoles' unique characteristics and the way Missouri winemakers use the varietal attracted world-renowned glassmaker, Georg Riedel of Riedel Crystal.
