Blunt To Deliver Commencement Address At ECC

UNION, Mo. - United States Senator Roy Blunt will deliver the address at East Central College’s forty-fourth annual spring commencement Saturday, May 17.  The ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Multipurpose Building on the ECC campus in Union.

Blunt served in the U.S. House of Representatives for 14 years prior to his election to the Senate in 2010.  He is a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee; the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee; the Senate Armed Services Committee; and the Senate Rules Committee.

Blunt serves as the ranking Republican on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies.  He is also the ranking Republican on the Commerce Subcommittee on Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety, and Security.

County Board to host Disability Awareness Fair This Thursday

UNION, Mo. - On Thursday March 20, 2014, the Developmental Disabilities Resource Board and Developmental Services of Franklin County will host a disabilities awareness event that will be open to the public and free of charge.  The event will be held from 3-7 p.m. at the Developmental Services North location, 1281 N. Highway 47 in Union.

The event will feature information about a wide range of services for individuals with disabilities and professional staff will be on hand to speak personally with individuals and families who may have a need for programs and services.  In addition to program and service information, there will be games and prizes and the opportunity to meet some of the equine favorites from Exceptional Equestrians of the Missouri Valley.  Light refreshments will be available.

Union Man Arrested After Holding Three Teens At Gunpoint

UNION, Mo.  -  The Union Police Department says Shawn Aubuchon was charged for Robbery 1st Degree  this morning after holding three teens at gunpoint at the MotoMart gas station in Union, Mo. Sunday night at approximately 8:20 p.m.

Union Area Girl Scout Troops Adopt Pizzeria As Cookie Store

Union, Mo. - For 16 days, starting February 28, multiple Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri troops from the Union area will take over Philly’s Pizza Parlor to set up a Girl Scout Cookie Store, located at 118 S. Oak Street.

Customers will be able to buy all eight Girl Scout Cookie varieties – Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Do-si-dos, Trefoils, Savannah Smiles, Dulce de Leches and Thank U Berry Munches – for $4 per box.

Cookie store hours will be Monday-Friday from 4–8 pm and Saturday and Sunday from
8 am-8 pm until March 15, 2014.

Shamrocks Beat Hermann In Third Place Game After Double OT Win Over Union

--New Haven grabbed two big wins this weekend in less than a 24 hour stretch after going six days without playing thanks to the winter weather.

Friday night New Haven picked up their first conference win on the road defeating Union 52-49 in double overtime then turned right around on Saturday to beat Hermann in the third place game of the Hermann Tournament in another tight game 56-51.

Kyle Ruediger and Seth Schenck led New Haven in scoring with Ruediger scoring 20 points Friday night followed by a repeat performance against Hermann with a game high 24 points.  Schenck was perfect from inside the arc against Union (4-4) as he put up a season high 18 points and then scored 16 on Hermann.

Varsity Wins In Double OT - JV Loses In Quadruple OT At Union

Union, Mo. - Last night's Four Rivers Conference JV & V games combined for a total of six overtimes at Union High School.

In the JV game New Haven trailed by four in the 4th overtime when Andrew Menke drained a three and was fouled with 1.8 seconds remaining to pull New Haven within one.  Menke's free throw was off the mark as Union held on 37-36.

In the Varsity game New Haven's Ross Seitter took a beating, getting elbowed not once but twice.  The second elbow sent Seitter to the ground as the foul was ruled flagrant and Union's Nick Ziegler ejected.

National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend Honors Military, 
First Responders With Various Activities

ST. Louis, Mo. - To honor those who serve and protect our nation and who come to the aid of those impacted by natural disasters, the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri will donate cookie orders to US military personnel on National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend, February 7 and 8, 2014.

Today from 1 to 4 pm, a Girl Scout Troop where be stationed at a cookie booth in the James S. McDonnell USO, located on the lower level of Terminal 1, across from the M6 baggage carousel at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.

In addition, to thanking first responders for their services, Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri shared milk and cookies with police officers, firefighters, EMTs and deputies across the Council during National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend (see dates, times and locations below).

Locally Girl Scouts will be at Union Firehouse 1, 1401 W. Springfield Ave. Union, MO 63084 tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 8 at 9 am

Lady Rocks Grab Conference Win Over Union 46-30 - Win Fourth Straight

Union, Mo. - New Haven started off sluggish in Friday night’s Four Rivers Conference game against Union and found themselves down seven (8-15) after one quarter.

Led by Rachel Steinhoff’s 26 points, tying her career high, New Haven would battle back, holding Union to just two points in the fourth quarter to pick up their fourth straight win 46-30, improving to 12-4 and 2-1 in conference play.
