Liz Ann Holdmeyer (March 12, 1971 - November 13, 2013)

Elizabeth “Liz” Ann Barrett-Holdmeyer, 42, of Washington, passed away in Grapevine, Texas on November 13, 2013.

Liz was born in Washington on March 12, 1971 to Hal and Bette (nee Holtmeyer) Barrett.

She was united in marriage to Bernie Holdmeyer on January 31, 1997 in Jamaica.

Liz soaked up life, met every day with a smile, loved having a good time, and would more often than not, instead of lamenting her own problems, she would try to help her family and friends with theirs.

Tyson Wayne Ryland (April 12, 1983 - November 11, 2013)


Tyson Wayne Ryland, age 30, of Washington passed away in Washington on Monday, November 11, 2013. He was born in West Branch, Michigan to Wayne and the late Jan Ryland on April 12, 1983.

Tyson served one tour of duty in Iraq from 2003 until 2004. He enjoyed reading and spending time with his family. He also spent his free time volunteering at an animal shelter in Tucson, Arizona.

Private services will be held and memorial donations are appreciated in his memory to the VFW Post 2661

The Insane Can Posse Braggin’ Rights BBQ Showdown will be held and judged in a KCBS-style format, and will feature White Meat Chicken and Ribs as the two categories.

The entire event is open to the public and will also feature a People’s Choice Ribs Contest sponsored by Todd Geisert Farms beginning at 1:00 p.m. Visitors are invited to try each team’s ribs and vote for their favorite.

Washington Man Commits Suicide - Recently Discharged From Military

Washington, Mo. - This morning, at approximately 9:59 a.m., Washington officers responded to a report of a possible suicide by gunshot in the 200 block of Wenona Drive.  

A neighbor "heard a pop" and then walked out and saw a subject lying in the back yard of a residence behind him.  He walked over and saw the gun and then called the police.

Upon arrival, officers located the victim lying face down in the back yard bleeding from an obvious gunshot wound to the head.

Highway 100 Lane Closures In Washington Beginning Monday

Washington, Mo. -Drivers on Route 100 in Washington, Mo., will only have one lane open weekdays between Pottery and Route 47 as crews perform asphalt paving work, starting Monday, November 11.

Flaggers will direct traffic through the work zone on Route 100 between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. weekdays as crews place new asphalt, weather permitting.

Man Charged In Washington Fast-Trip Armed Robbery

Washington, Mo. - After an armed robbery on Sept. 17th at the Fast-Trip Service Station on East 5th Street,  20-year-old white male Cornelius R. Balch was formally charged Tuesday morning with 1st Degree armed robbery by the Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Washington Police Chief Ken Hahn called this a “case of excellent police work.”  Hahn also said, “Our detectives worked tirelessly in putting together a solid case against Balch.”

Angel of Hope Memorial Garden Dedication

Washington, Mo - In June of 2012 a group of bereaved parents shared a vision of a quiet place where parents and families who've lost a child could go to remember their loved one(s) in "Hope" of having a place to heal.

The group came up with the idea of creating a memorial garden with the Angel of Hope as it's centerpiece and on Sunday, October 9th their vision was unveiled with a dedication ceremony.
